What is a hot toddy?
A hot toddy is typically a co*cktail served warm with whiskey. It usually consists of liquor, hot water, spices, lemon. Often people like to enjoy these drinks during Fall and winter months.
What kind of glass to serve a hot toddy in
A glass mug is most often used to serve a hot toddy. You want something with a handle as the beverage is hot. Here are some of our favorites:
Mix the apple cider, cinnamon and star of anise in a sauce pan. Bring to low boil. Turn down heat, simmer for 10 – 15 minutes.
Add honey and stir. Add bourbon and fresh lemon and fresh orange juice. Pour into mugs or glasses.
You can garnish the glasses with an apple or lemon wedge.

1. Combine apple juice or apple cider with cloves and cinnamon in a microwaveable mug, cup or glass. 2. Heat in the microwave oven, uncovered, for 2 to 3 minutes.

Cider alcohol content varies from 1.2% to 8.5% ABV or more in traditional English ciders, and 3.5% to 12% in continental ciders. In UK law, it must contain at least 35% apple juice (fresh or from concentrate), although CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) says that "real cider" must be at least 90% fresh apple juice.
Apple cider contains polyphenols, which are compounds in plants that act as antioxidants. They can help the body to fight against free radicals and cell damage, lowering your risk of certain types of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Polyphenols also help to ease inflammation in the body.
It's all up to personal preference! Apple cider can be served fresh out of the fridge, on ice, or warmed up, typically with cinnamon sticks or additional fall spices. Some folks also feel safer drinking unpasteurized cider after it has been heated to at least 160 degrees (and cools to taste).
Using too many spices will result in bitter apple cider. Ground nutmeg. you can substitute one whole nutmeg for the ground, if you prefer. However whole nutmeg is difficult to find, and when I use it to make this apple cider recipe I find it leaves a bitter taste that we don't prefer.
Apple cider has a natural affinity for dark spirits, and bourbon is a classic. While you could load this up with all kinds of winter spice, we keep things simple: cider, spirit, a little honey to balance the booze, and a cinnamon stick to garnish.
A delicious blend of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey, a special apple cider liqueur and warm winter spices that come together delightfully to create the perfect holiday co*cktail blend.
Warm apple cider transforms the popular hot toddy into a delightful drink for autumn and winter. You can choose whiskey or apple brandy to make the hot apple toddy. Either way, it's a comforting drink that's easy to mix up on chilly days.
Adding spices, such as ginger, to a hot toddy may also have benefits. There is, however, no evidence to suggest that alcohol can help with the symptoms. Doctors often recommend that people avoid drinking alcohol when they have a cold or flu.
Best consumed in small doses and infrequently, Hot Toddies can only be served as as medicine to those 21 and over, should not replace a medical professional's advice, and are best followed by a tall glass of water, some herbal tea, and plenty of rest and TLC.
So, stick to one, and you should be good to go. If you're feeling the aches and pains associated with a cold, Left Bank Melbourne has created a Hot toddy recipe for you to make at home!
Cider is ideal when paired with all kinds of pork, whether you're making sausages, chops or bacon. The sweetness of cider contrasts the saltiness of the pork, working together to create unique and delicious flavours. Cider also goes well with chicken, especially in homely dishes like roast chicken or casseroles.
Sugar. Apple juice usually contains enough sugar to produce a hard cider containing 4 to 6% alcohol. If you want a cider with a higher alcohol content, you can add sugar, honey, or maple syrup at the beginning of the fermentation process.
Sugar to increase alcohol content – Any sugar added prior to fermentation is converted into alcohol during fermentation, creating a higher alcohol content of the final product. Common types of sugar used are frozen apple juice concentrate, honey, brown sugar, and dextrose.
